30 Hour Famine Results

Today, we completed our 30 Hour Famine. We spent the weekend at the church fasting, both to increase our own awareness about world hunger, as well as raise money to help fight it. We had guest speakers offer very interesting workshops. Lesha presented a workshop on inner beauty, and how we should think of ourselves as beautiful creations of God. Walter offered a workshop on self esteem, conversation skills and how to treat others. Lastly, Loretta led us through some skits that had a Christian message.

Although we were a small group, we were able to raise $600! Thank-you to everyone who contributed!

We ended our famine with a group lunch, without forgetting that there are people in the world that have no known end to their hunger. We pray that one day world hunger doesn't exist anymore.

Earth Day

This Sunday, April 22nd, is Earth Day! To help spread the message on how we can save our plant, Robbie has prepared a short presentation on global warming and its effects. As a group, we will be presenting the information to the congregation during children's time. We will also provide a hand-out which tells people ten simple ways they can help.

All group members should have all received the text of the presentation by email. If not, please let Jamie know.

30 Hour Famine

We will be holding our 30 Hour Famine event beginning at 08:00 a.m. (yes you read that right!) on April 28th, 2007. The event will end following worship on the 29th with a group lunch.

Throughout the weekend, there will be various activities, including workshops from Leisha and Walter. We will also be watching DVD's, playing games (bring your favourites), and other fun activities.

Please remember to bring a sleeping bag, air mattress, teddy bear and anything you might need. We will be supplying juice and water. Remember, the purpose of the event is to help save the lives of children who don't have proper food or clean water. We go without food for 30 hours to better understand what it is like.
If you have any questions, please ask Jamie or Brenda

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to the "Youth United" blog.

This blog will serve as an online presence for Greenfield Park United Church's Youth Group.

It will be used as a means to broadcast information on our various activities, as well as a place to share ideas, prayers, jokes, recipes, game cheat codes... ummm.... well maybe just a place for Group members to be able to share whatever!
